Over the years, we’ve tried a lot of fragrance-free body lotions. As we’ve written about before, finding completely fragrance-free products can be difficult. Unfortunately, many magazines and beauty websites make sloppy and incorrect “fragrance-free” and “unscented” product recommendations without conducting adequate research about perfume-free products.
As a result, magazines and beauty websites often recommend products that claim to be “fragrance-free” or “unscented.” Still, these products turn out to contain scents, botanical extracts, or natural oils that can cause an allergic reaction.
The fact is that just because something is “natural” doesn’t mean it can’t cause allergic reactions or other harmful side effects. For example, fragrances, both natural fragrances derived from essential oils and synthetic ones, can irritate the skin and frequently cause fragrance-induced contact dermatitis.
Are fragrance-free body lotions better for you?
Fragrance-free body lotions are better for you. That is because they do not contain any harmful fragrances or perfumes. Fragrances have no active function and are completely unnecessary in body lotions.
Do fragrance-free body lotions smell bad?
Fragrance-free products, including body lotions, do not smell bad. They have only a sort of neutral smell, which most people would refer to as not having a smell.
We’ve done our due diligence and have compiled a list of the actual 5 best fragrance-free body lotions that will comfort and hydrate sensitive skin without irritating it.
Next up is our list of the best perfume-free body lotions in 2023, as picked by our experts.
Lubriderm Daily Moisture Fragrance-Free Body Lotion

Developed by dermatologists, this fragrance-free body lotion formula is loaded with vitamin B5 to moisturize your skin without feeling heavy or greasy. This light everyday formula is the perfect go-to for those with sensitive skin.
We love that it absorbs quickly – you can literally slather it on, get dressed, and you’re good to go. Even though it’s lightweight, it somehow manages to be moisturizing enough, even for dry skin. Plus, we really like the convenient pump. And the very reasonable price point makes it the best-value fragrance-free body lotion on the market in 2023.
Clinique Deep Comfort Body Moisture Fragrance-Free Body Lotion
Clinique has long been the go-to brand for anyone who has sensitive skin. Clinique introduced the first dermatologist-developed skincare line in 1968. The company is well-known for not using allergens, irritants, or ingredients in ways that could harm your skin. I began using Clinique more than 20 years ago, long before I became aware of my fragrance sensitivity. And I’m still a fan decades later.
This fragrance-free body lotion from Clinique feels very smooth, absorbs quickly, and leaves my skin moisturized. Although Clinique’s Deep Comfort Body Moisture is fragrance-free, it does contain ‘Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice’ (commonly known as Aloe Vera) and Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), which, while generally safe, may irritate those with extremely sensitive skin.
Vanicream Moisturizing Fragrance-Free Body Lotion
Previously known as Vanicream Lite Lotion, now just called Vanicream Moisturizing Lotion. This lotion is a lighter version of the popular (and richer) Vanicream Moisturizing Cream.
It is non-greasy, easy to apply, and absorbs quickly. In addition, it is non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog pores), and doesn’t contain botanical extracts, essential oils, or masking fragrance (yay!) Plus, it has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance from the National Eczema Association. Essentially, the ideal lotion for those with sensitive skin.
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Fragrance-Free Body Lotion
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream includes ceramides 1, 3, and 6-ii and hyaluronic acid to effectively hydrate the skin and restore the skin’s protective barrier.
The moisturizing cream is great for normal to dry skin and is gentle enough to be used on the face and body. It has earned a seal of acceptance from the National Eczema Association.
CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Fragrance-Free Body Lotion
Another good option with a lighter consistency (and thus perfect in the morning!) is the oil-free and fragrance-free body lotion Daily Moisturizing Lotion from CeraVe.
This non-comedogenic, oil-free, and fragrance-free moisturizer is, like the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, formulated with hyaluronic acid, which helps retain the skin’s natural moisture, and 3 essential ceramides, which helps restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier. The National Eczema Association has also awarded the lotion their Seal of Acceptance.
